News: Co-operative Travel Management rebrands as Clarity following takeover

By

Following its sale to the Middle East-based Mawasem Travel & Tourism Ltd in 2014, Co-operative Travel Management is removing ties to its former parent group and rebranding as Clarity Travel Management.

Headquartered in Manchester, the experts in business travel has 13 branches across the country including an office on Ashley Business Court in Rotherham. It employs 230 people across the UK and has a client list spread across the corporate, not-for profit and education sectors.

A joint venture with partners Co-operative Group and Midlands Co-operative, Thomas Cook entered into the joint venture in October 2011, when the three parties merged their retail travel agency operations in the UK.

Thomas Cook announced in May 2014 that it had agreed to sell its UK corporate travel business to Mawasem Travel & Tourism Ltd for a consideration of £13.5m. Mawasem Travel & Tourism Ltd is the UK subsidiary of the Al Tayyar Group, the leading Middle Eastern owned global travel group which acquired Thomas Cook's Elegant Resorts business earlier in 2014.

Clarity Travel Management will be led by chief executive Pat McDonagh as it carves a new identity in the business travel sector. With the rebrand, comes a £500,000 investment in cutting edge technology and software.

Pat McDonagh, chief executive of Clarity, said: "Clarity will have many similarities to the Co-op, we are a co-operative business at our core and will always be people focused. However, this is a great opportunity to do things differently.

"Heritage isn't what wins you new business and makes clients want to work with you. It's about having the best technology, the best pricing and the best people.

"We have invested heavily to improve our proposition and be the best at what we do in preparation for the launch of the new brand.

"With Clarity, we are providing a clear service to clients, clear on costing and everything we do. Clients know they can trust us."

Clarity plans a "disruptive" approach to the business travel sector, building on its already diverse business client base that covers sectors from corporate, sports businesses and charities, to infrastructure firms and education establishments.
