News: Rotherham regeneration ready to explode!

By

A regeneration project in Rotherham was put on hold yesterday after workmen discovered an un-exploded WW2 bomb. Contractors working to improve flood defences found the device under a bridge on the banks of the River Don next to the Firth Rixson site on Sheffield Road at around 12.10pm yesterday afternoon. Local businesses were allowed back into their premises once Army personnel had removed the device and Sheffield Road was re-opened at 3.45pm. The council-led £14m flood alleviation scheme is set to safeguard a 1km stretch of the River Don protecting businesses, roads and rail lines from future floods.
