News: Duo's narrowboat success in land-locked Rotherham

By

Caroline and Glyn Scott are finding that their business, Reeds Boats is thriving from its base at Kiveton Park Industrial Estate, Rotherham. The venture started four years ago when Glyn, a joiner who used to work in property maintenance, and Caroline, an interior designer who specialised in soft furnishings, were asked if they could fit out a narrow boat. The couple work in two ways - either providing the shell and working with the customer to fit it out, or taking an existing hull and kitting it out just as the client likes. The couple are currently working on a boat for Swinton Lock Activity Centre and in the process of selling their house in order to live on a Dutch barge on the canal. They hope the move will be a boost for their business with the new boat acting as a show home for potential customers. The company have recently gained national recognition having featured in specialist magazine, Towpath Talk and The Daily Telegraph.
