News: Harthill pupils put their business acumen to the test

By

The Dinnington & Maltby Guardian report on the latest Rotherham school to host an enterprise event. Working with Rotherham Ready and young entrepreneurs from Rotherham Youth Enterprise, Harthill Primary School set each of the six classes the challenge of starting a business from scratch. The week long initiative saw the budding entrepreneurs involved with everything from designing logos and tickets to accountancy and costing. Visits from young entrepreneurs earlier in the week inspired the pupils and the week's lessons focused on the business objectives of teamwork, organisation, creativity, initiative, financial literacy and problem-solving. Amy Crane, Year 2 teacher and enterprise champion. told the paper: "Enterprise isn't something that's part of our curriculum, so this was about making the children aware of business. "My class did wonderfully well as the Cool Clothes Company," added Mrs Crane. "Rather than selling goods, they sold a service."
