News: AMP shows strength of manufacturing in Yorkshire

By

Iain Gray, chief executive of the Technology Strategy Board, visited the AMP in Rotherham as part of a recent trip to the Yorkshire region. During a whistle stop tour, Mr Gray visited companies in the ITC building, plus the TWI Technology Centre and the AMRC’s new Factory of the Future. Mr Gray said: "Manufacturing covers a whole range of technologies here in Yorkshire, particularly hard metals, engineering capabilities, aerospace and energy. There is some terrific stuff going on. The businesses are out there winning contracts from all around the world."Yorkshire and Humber has real strength and depth in manufacturing technologies. If you look at the region and what has happened in the last 10 years, traditional manufacturers have had to reinvent themselves. Manufacturing is not in decline and businesses around here have adapted to changes and make a major contribution to the market." The Technology Strategy Board is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, and is investing up to £1bn over the next three years to support innovation and technology development across the UK.
