News: Manvers regeneration scheme ammended

By

Developers TCN UK are set to have ammendments to the £130m Manvers Lakeside scheme in Rotherham approved this week. The recent planning application comprises residential apartments and houses, together with shops, restaurant and cafes, a health club and a medical centre which would replace a larger leisure scheme already approved for the site. The developers state the success of the larger leisure scheme was entirely dependent on bringing a cinema operator to the site, and as a cinema was excluded from the plans due to objections from Barnsley Council and the desire for a cinema in Rotherham town centre, alternative uses for the site have been sought. The new application includes 386 residential units including 233 houses and 153 apartments which will join the 200 units already under construction, a golf course, huge lake, hotel and commercial units on the site of the former Manvers colliery. The planning report states that "on balance it is not considered that the residential development of this site would undermine the wider regeneration benefits of the development of the Manvers site and would in fact contribute to it, as a vacant site in this location could jeopardise the integrity of the overall development proposals."
