News: Preview visit for Rotherham's new £5m business centre

By

Movers and shakers in the business world have had a preview of one of the UK’s most unusual business centres. People from the legal, business, finance and other sectors were among the first to see inside the eco-friendly, green-roofed Fusion @ Magna, in Rotherham. Shaped like a flat-topped pyramid, it will have plant-covered "living walls" to reduce heating and air-conditioning costs and cut its carbon footprint. "Rotherham is on the move," the Borough Council’s director of planning and regeneration, Paul Woodcock, told the visitors. "This is just one piece of a jigsaw that’s absolutely transformed this small area over the past year – at least £52m-worth of investment and more than 1,100 jobs, all forecast for this one site. "It means we and the start-up businesses are growing the local economy, with more jobs being created. But above all it means people who’ve dreamed of running their own businesses are making those dreams real." It is the third purpose-built incubation centre for start-ups and growing companies in Rotherham – soon to be joined by a fourth, Matrix @ Dinnington. They are all run by the council’s regeneration arm, Rotherham Investment & Development Office.
