News: Dormer to host technical surgery at AMP

By

Dormer Tools is opening a technical surgery to demonstrate how its products can give customers a competitive advantage. The engineering company has unveiled a dozen new products to its extensive range and the tools will become the first to be exhibited at Dormer’s new site at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham. Dormer has launched a range of high performance solid carbide drills specifically for machining composite materials, which are being increasingly used in the aerospace industry. David Goulbourne, development manager for drills at Dormer, said: "Machining of composite materials can cause problems such as delamination between layers, fraying, hole erosion and splintering. The new drill – developed in co-operation with the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing - addresses these issues, providing the perfect solution for the market." As part of their R&D facility, Dormer will be staging live demonstrations on cutting aluminium and steel with their tools using machines recently purchased from DMG. John O’Donoghue, General Manager at Dormer Tools, added: "The surgery days will enable customers to bring in their drawings and applications and speak with our sales engineers onsite and gain first hand assistance, with the ultimate aim of significantly reducingmanufacturing costs."
