News: Atkins acquires Rotherham firm in £2.5m deal

Atkins, Europe's largest design and engineering consultancy, has strengthened its position in the nuclear sector with the acquisition of MG Bennett & Associates Ltd for a cash consideration of £2.5 million. With a team of around 30 people, MG Bennett was formed in 1984 and is based at Whiston in Rotherham. The company specialises in mechanical and structural engineering and has a strong track record in delivering solutions to the nuclear industry. In addition to its nuclear expertise, the company works within the aerospace, oil and gas, power, environmental and rail sectors and has a renowned reputation in the design of bespoke mechanical equipment and large moveable structures. MG Bennett has worked on high profile projects such as the Channel Tunnel, the Falkirk Wheel, the Forth Road Bridge and Airbus A380. Nick Cooper, managing director of MG Bennett and one of the founding partners, said: "We are really proud of what we have achieved as a business and becoming part of Atkins allows our staff to unleash their full potential.
