News: Olympic training club completed at Manvers

By

The Waterfront development at Manvers, Rotherham has received a major boost following the completion of a major leisure facility, a canoe club for the British Canoeing Union. Provision of the boat house facility which is adjacent to the development’s 50-acre lake, formed part of developer TCN UK’s development obligations to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. The British Canoeing Union are now able to operate a variety of watersports from the boathouse, including flat water canoeing to Olympic standard, sailing, dragon boating, model boating as well as coarse angling. It is anticipated that it will be fully operational with these activities by Spring of next year. Stephen Holme, Director of TCN UK Northern office comments: "We are delighted to be celebrating the completion of this great project which will make superb use of the lake here at Manvers. It will attract people from far and wide, and that’s good news for the scheme as a whole, which is now beginning to take on its own identity as a vibrant, attractive community in which to live, work and play." The £130 million Waterfront development’s plans are progressing well. The scheme’s £9 million 130-room hotel being developed by London Heritage and Hanover Group is under construction, with completion anticipated in Summer 2009. In addition, Taylor Wimpey have commenced works on their residential scheme, "Kingfishers Walk". TCN have also recently received planning approval for a further 350 houses on the Waterfront – bolstering the developments reputation as a truly mixed use development.
