News: Venturefest Yorkshire announce biggest prize fund

By

Venturefest Yorkshire organisers have unveiled the biggest prize package in the event’s six-year history as they open the door to applications for this year’s business competitions. Prizes worth over £35,000 are up for grabs for the region’s most promising science and technology businesses in the event’s popular Innovation Showcase and Investment Competition. Anne Salisbury runs Innovation Showcase, which is sponsored by Business Link Yorkshire and gives young enterprises the chance to showcase their products and services to potential customers, buyers and investors. She said: "They’ll have the chance to make contact with investors, senior industry specialists, buyers and business professionals from all over the region and beyond; not to mention the opportunity to promote their business to more than 2,000 delegates at the show. "For a young business, that’s a fantastic proposition, particularly as one of last year’s competition winners has already secured investment as a direct result of taking part, which is taking his business to the next level." The investment competition is organised by Connect Yorkshire in association with The Yorkshire Association of Business Angels and designed to help increase the profile of some of the region’s most promising young businesses. In its five-year history, the competition has awarded prizes totalling more than £120,000. Venturefest Yorkshire takes place February 11 2009 at York Racecourse. The closing date for applications is November 22 2008.
