News: Horbury staff honoured at graduation ceremony

By

A Rotherham construction specialist is toasting three new graduates in its workforce thanks to its pro-active training programme. Joe White, James Herbert and Tom Jenkinson, who work at The Horbury Group, were awarded their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees at Sheffield Hallam University in a ceremony at Sheffield City Hall. Joe (25), from Sheffield, and James (29), from Doncaster, both completed degrees in Construction Management, while Tom (24), from Rotherham, gained a degree in Quantity Surveying. Joe, who works as a quantity surveyor at Horbury Group, said: "Completing the degree alongside my role at Horbury was a fantastic opportunity. On completion of the course I gained a promotion to the role of quantity surveyor, having previously been an assistant, so it benefited my career immediately. "Backing up the knowledge I was gaining on the course with direct experience on site was extremely beneficial, as it gave me the chance to put what I was learning directly into practice." Trevor Wragg, managing director at the Horbury Group, said: "We actively encourage staff to undertake a University degree alongside their role in the firm and this is as much for their own career development as it is a benefit to the company. "All three have done fantastically well in their achievements and we hope that what they have learnt during their courses has a positive impact on them both personally and in their role with the Horbury Group companies."
