News: Rotherham to be part of Yorkshire construction framework
Four Yorkshire councils have set up a combined construction framework, called YORbuild. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have joined with Scarborough Borough Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Leeds City Council to set up the scheme. The sub-regional frameworks will cover minor and major new build and refurbishment works across the region where councils spend spend £1.2 billion a year on construction. It is hoped that the move will help SMEs win work. Head of infrastructure and facilities for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Nigel Leighton told CNPlus: "Through a collaborative approach YORbuild aims to achieve efficiency through improved procurement process, implementation of best practice, standardised approaches to design and construction solutions innovation. This will lead to improved certainty in terms of time, quality and cost for the Yorkshire and Humber regions 22 Local Authorities and other regionally based Public Sector Bodies who will be invited to procure construction projects via the YORbuild Framework." Rotherham Council will lead the South Area Framework. Contract Journal reports that 80 expressions of interest have already been received.
