
Tony Stewart, the owner of Rotherham company ASD Lighting and Rotherham United Football Club is listed at joint 98th in Management Today's Top 100 Entrepreneurs 2009. This is the sixth time the list has been compiled and is based on two key measurements, growth in turnover and employment. The list states that Mr Stewart's wealth stands at £20m and indicates that ASD Lighting has enjoyed a turnover of £18m over the last five years, an 80% increase. The firm employs 172 people, a 24% increase over the last 5 years. Last year, ASD Lighting was named in The Star's Top SME's, again coming out top in Rotherham and named as South Yorkshire's second most profitable company, with a 50 per cent increase in profits from £2.6 million to £3.8 million. ASD have invested £5m in recent years expanding their premises on Barbot Hall Industrial Estate, creating more space to improve efficiency by better control and planned production. The diverse list of Britain's top 100 entrepreneurs sees Mr Stewart in good company, just behind chef Rick Stein who is at 97. Well known business figure Duncan Bannatyne is 6th with Sheffield's Emma Harrison of A4E Recruitment at 46 and Alan Beardshaw of Sheffield's Special Steel Company at 56.
