Care4Air are calling for Rotherham's clean air champions to put forward nominations for the 2009 Care4Air Awards. The innovative awards scheme from South Yorkshire's air quality campaign, recognises individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to improving air quality in the region. Awards will be given for individuals, community groups, schools and businesses, as well as an overall winners award for "Outstanding Contribution to Improving Air Quality". ITV weatherman, Jon Mitchell will be making a special guest appearance to compere the prestigious awards ceremony on June 11 and present the awards to the winners. At the 2008 Awards businesses in Rotherham set the standards high. First South Yorkshire, which is based in Rotherham, just pipped Garnett Dickinson Print to the post for the Business Award category. First won the award for their contribution to improving air quality through the introduction of the new X78 bus service. The buses run from Doncaster to Sheffield via Rotherham and are new Euro 4 standard buses that emit far fewer emissions than the older vehicles - meaning improved air quality along the bus corridor.
