News: Rotherham green building wins environmental award
The Advanced Manufacturing Park Technology Centre has been successful at the inaugural Yorkshire Post Environmental Awards.
The zero-carbon project won the built environment projects over £1m category, sponsored by accountants Grant Thornton.
Other shortlisted nominees included; Brompton Lakes, a development of 10 lodge-style holiday homes on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, and the York Eco Centre, for environmentally friendly business start-ups.
The winners were announced at an Awards Dinner held at the Queens Hotel, Leeds on May 7th.
The building is to be powered by Europe's largest capacity hydrogen mini-grid system and includes other features such as ground source heat pumps and grey water recapture systems.Yorkshire Post editor Peter Charlton told the paper: "I hope it will become an annual fixture in the region's calendar, and I have been absolutely delighted by the response of companies and individuals who have submitted entries. What has become apparent is how seriously business in our region takes environmental issues."
