News: South Yorkshire Digital Region event
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is leading an open lecture on high speed broadband in South Yorkshire on Wednesday September 16.
The main focus of the event will be the The South Yorkshire Digital Region Project that has has been developed by Yorkshire Forward and the Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster & Sheffield Local Authorities.
The partners have raised European, regional, local & private investment in excess of £90m and the project, which is now managed by Digital Region Ltd.(DRL), is expected to stimulate significant job creation within the area.
Thales Transport and Security Limited (Thales) have been appointed to deliver, manage and operate the state of the art fibre optic cable infrastructure. Thales leads a consortium which includes Alcatel-lucent and KCOM Group.
The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr John Parkinson will open and chair proceedings, and Corporate Services spokesperson Cllr Tim Cheetham will present a background to the Digital Region project.
There will then be presentations from representatives from Thales UK on technical and logistical details before a question and answer session.
The event takes place at Barnsley Town Hall on September 16, starting at 6pm.
