News: IT Desk UK wins Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

IT Desk UK has been named the overall winner in the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2009.

Chris Wright launched his own company in 2006 after becoming interested in IT while studying for his GCSEs.

Since then he's worked round the clock to establish his company, successfully weathering the current economic downturn.

And this month his determination to deliver great customer service helped him to win the prestigious 2009 title and unanimous praise from judges.

The Manvers firm provide IT services to small and medium sized businesses enabling them to save money when compared to having an in-house IT department or manager.

Chris said: "The competition was tough and I know there were some cracking companies in the running.

"Receiving this sort of recognition does make all the hard work worthwhile. This is a real milestone for me, which I plan to use to drive the business forward and develop our reputation further."

"The next 12 months will be challenging and I don't expect it to be easy but I know we are well placed to push ahead and attract new customers. The award will play a vital part in this and it's a great way to end 2009."

Geoff Link, enterprise manager for Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO), the council's regeneration arm, said: "The borough has a well established reputation for supporting young talent and encouraging entrepreneurship, which is exactly what the Rotherham Enterprise Network Awards are about.

"All our finalists were outstanding, but there's no doubt that Chris is a shining example of a young person with big ambitions but at the same time he's got common sense and a realistic approach to running a business."

IT Desk initially operated from one of RiDO's units at Century, where he received free business advice and subsidised rent. Having outgrown this facility he has now moved into Manvers House.
