News: Rotherham's LSM Give & Gain

By

Employees from London & Scandinavian Metallurgical Co. Limited (LSM) in Rotherham ditched their day jobs last week to help children at Canklow Woods Primary School install pond plants and create a walkway to the school's newly created pond.

They took part in Give & Gain Day, the UK's largest and only day of action for employee volunteers, organised by Business in the Community. Employees from LSM will join over 6,000 others from 212 companies who are volunteering their time to help communities across the UK, injecting £1 million man-hours into community projects.

Sponsored by Eversheds LLP, Give & Gain Day 2010 is dedicated to getting thousands of employees out of the office, store or factory to volunteer their time in their local community.

David Beare, LSM Group Aluminium Business Director said: "It is really motivating to get out of the office and be involved in a project that will have such a lasting impact in the local community. Not only have we made a difference, but we have had great fun."

Founded in 1938, London & Scandinavian Metallurgical Co. Limited (LSM) is a highly successful manufacturer of high specification metals and alloys and an acknowledged global leader in the metals industry.

Their Canklow plant together with its sister company, LSM Brasil SA, based in Sao Joao del Rei, produces a range of specialised products for the aluminium industry, the steel industry, superalloys, hard facing, welding and the glass industry.

Last year, the firm donated much-needed cash to Canklow Woods Primary School to pay for enough interactive white boards for every class.
