News: Bramall rewarded for building excellence

By

A development by Rotherham social housing specialist Bramall Construction has picked up a top award at the West Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards.

The £3.2 million Extra Care development at The Beeches, Menston, near Ilkley was crowned winner of the New Dwelling (Multiple) category.

The Beeches was built on behalf of Abbeyfield, a national registered charity and the largest voluntary housing organisation committed to elderly people in the UK, in partnership with Yorkshire Housing, Brewster Bye Architects, Bland and Swift Structural Engineers and Bernard Williams Associates, BES Consultant Engineers and Smeeden Foreman.

The purpose-built development consists of 24 sheltered flats for rent and sale.

David Morley, Construction Manager at Bramall, said: "Winning this award is a real achievement. The hard work of the team at Bramall and our partners has really paid off and we are proud that this has been recognised."

In March, the company won the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development in the South Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards for a project at Newhill Road in Barnsley.

Hosted by Local Authority Building Control, the awards recognise excellence achieved through building standards, technical innovation and sustainable designs.

Bramall will now progress to the National LABC Building Excellence Finals, to be held in London later in the year.
