News: Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2010 winners
Category winners in The Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2010 have been announced at an event at Clifton Park Museum in Rotherham.
The awards, sponsored by Rotherham Enterprise Network (REN) and UK Steel Enterprise, have again uncovered a wealth of young talent that is relentlessly bucking the national trend with a collection of small but successful new businesses springing up in the borough.
Following the submission of a business plan, each business owner then attended an interview before a panel of judges, whose job it was to decide the four category winners. The standard of entries was so high that judges took the unprecedented step of recognising the efforts of the runners-up alongside the category winners.
• Best new start-up — Aardvark Display Lighting
• Best established business — Steel City Promotions
• Business most determined to succeed — JADE
• Best business using IT/technology — RipWire
• Runners-up — F1showcars and Alexandra Buffet Co
Businesses will be featured on Rothbiz over the next week and the overall winner will be announced in October.
Award organiser and Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO) enterprise manager Geoff Link said: "I never fail to be impressed by the passionate young business men and women that enter these awards, especially during these uncertain times.
"They stand out from the crowd, not least because of their determination, ingenuity and self belief. Setting up and running your own business is not for the feint hearted - and these young entrepreneurs are certainly not that."
