News: Cut n Whoof opens with help from Rotherham Enterprise Project
A new Rotherham business is getting a huge paws up from its furry clientele whose owners are quickly booking up appointments for a pampering session.
Cut n Whoof, based in Parkgate, has opened its doors due to the demand for a pet parlour in the town and owner Toni Carr is delighted by the welcome she's received.
Toni, aged 50, from Rawmarsh, is originally from the East Coast and moved to South Yorkshire following a stint in the Navy. She worked for a mobility company and when she was faced with redundancy she decided to take the plunge and become a mobile dog groomer.
She explains: "I've always loved dogs and have owned show dogs for many years. I had a number of chow chow dogs and always had difficulty finding a place that could groom them in the way I wanted them.
"It was like the quest to find a really good hairdresser that you click with and that can make you look and feel your best. In the end a friend helped out and groomed them for me. I learned a lot from him and he encouraged me to train to be able to groom the dogs myself.
"When I was made redundant setting up my own business as a dog groomer just seemed such a natural thing to do. It was my chance to do something that I love doing."
The Rotherham Enterprise Project, which is part financed by The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), helped Toni secure a £500 grant and provided essential business advice, tax courses and business plan support through one of their business coaches, Julia Millea.
She added: "The Rotherham Enterprise Project has been so helpful providing me with a business coach who has given me so much support. For me this is a dream come true, it's not a job it's a vocation. Along with my partner Peter Hollies I've managed to create a lovely, warm, friendly environment where people can bring their beloved dogs for much more than just grooming, they will also get a message and lots of attention.
"We've now got four dogs of our own and my daughter has two and we are really looking forward to getting to know many more dogs and their owners in Rotherham."
Rachel Clark, from the Rotherham Investment and Development Office – an arm of Rotherham Enterprise said: "Toni has worked so hard to get to the stage she is at now and opening Cut n Whoof as a salon in Parkgate is a huge step for her.
"She already has many loyal customers from her days as a mobile groomer and she is now hoping to grow her client base by offering her services from a fantastic new venue."
