News: Beatson Clark invests in the future
Rotherham glass manufacturer Beatson Clark has recruited four apprentices as a part of the company's investment in the future.
Beatson Clark plans to invest £16m over the next two years in plant and machinery at their Greasborough Road site as well as further developing a community based glass collection scheme.
Matt Lee, 18, from Sheffield and Louis Fleet, 16, from Rotherham have already completed fourteen weeks basic engineering training at Brinsworth Training School and have gained an NVQ Level 2 in Multi-skilled Engineering. Gareth Thompson, 18, from Rotherham and James Bilham, 17, from Sheffield are currently under going their fourteen week basic training and will join the company full time in March, where they be united with Matt and Louis and embark on the Beatson Clark three year apprenticeship scheme.
Ron Branagan, Beatson Clark's Company Safety Training Manager, said: "It is our intention to train the four with succession planning in mind. We view apprenticeships as an asset to our business, the mixture of on and off job learning ensures the apprentices gain the skills particular to the glass manufacturing industry, some of which are traditionally hard to find.
"We are, however, going a step further and have developed an internal training programme with a duration of twelve to eighteen months that covers every aspect of the company. So our new apprentices will not only be learning about glass making, packaging and quality procedures they will also experience office based departments such as sales, marketing, accounting and customer relations, therefore giving them an excellent understanding how each element of a business is integrated to make a successful company.
"I would say an apprentice can add a lot to a company. New talent coming into the business can motivate other employees, they can add an element of enthusiasm and drive. It also demonstrates a company's is willingness to invest in the future."
