News: Powerstar appoints new recruit to support international growth plans

EMS (UK) Ltd, the Rotherham based energy consultancy, has recently appointed Steve Curtis as international business development manager.

The Templeborough company produce the Powerstar system, the only voltage optimisation system wholly designed and manufactured in the UK which works by reducing the the voltage supplied by the National Grid.

Steve, who has worked in the energy industry for over 22 years, brings with him a wealth of experience and a thorough understanding of the sector. Most recently, Steve worked for six years as business development manager for MeterPlus, npower's metering business. A role that required him to negotiate, secure and manage new contracts.

Steve's role will involve him managing the company's existing international distribution partnerships in Australia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Malta and Ireland. He is also tasked with finding new distribution partners in Scandinavia, Benelux, Germany, France and Iberia.

Steve's appointment reflects EMSc's significant growth. In 2010 the company increased turnover by 43% to over £11m. EMSc is employing 40% more staff and has expanded its Rotherham base with new buildings to house a new assembly and testing facility.

Dr. Alex Mardapittas, managing director at EMSc, said: "We are all extremely pleased to welcome Steve to the team and we look forward to seeing the value he will no doubt bring. The company has had a strong twelve months and Steve's appointment gives opportunity for further expansion internationally."

Steve added: "I really enjoy the fact that I am selling a product that allows companies to reduce their energy consumption and their carbon footprint, which in turn benefits the environment, as I am a bit of a "Greenie" myself."
