News: IT Desk UK @ DVC
An award-winning Rotherham entrepreneur is going back to Dearne Valley College (DVC) to support current IT students.
DVC has teamed up with former student Chris Wright, director of local IT business; IT Desk (UK) Limited to offer its current Computing and ICT students help with their coursework and offer valuable industry work experience placements to compliment their studies.
Chris set up the business after completing his HND in Computing in 2007 at the Wath based college. IT Desk (UK) is a limited company and has already made excellent progress as a business and was named the overall winner in the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2009.
The Manvers firm provide IT services to small and medium sized businesses enabling them to save money when compared to having an in-house IT department or manager.
Chris Wright said: "The students get work experience in an industry they are studying. It will help them appreciate how the theory they are learning applies to real-life scenarios."
Jon Barker, Chris' former lecturer added: "It's wonderful to see a former student making a success of their new business. What is amazing is that Chris is able to give something back to the college at such an early stage in his own career. This scheme is a great opportunity for our students because they get to work with a local business."
IT Desk initially operated from one of RiDO's units at Century Business Centre, where he received free business advice and subsidised rent. Having outgrown this facility he moved into Manvers House.
