News: We Have Cookies in Rotherham

By

A new café has opened inside the innovative Myplace youth centre in Rotherham town centre.

Myplace Rotherham is the new £3.4m youth centre and is part of the national Myplace initiative. It has been developed by a local partnership led by YMCA White Rose and involving the Council and other local partners.

The 60 seat café serves a delicious range of hot and cold meals, speciality coffees and homemade cakes. As well as a regular menu of soup, sandwiches, Panini's and baked potatoes; the café also provides daily hot specials and takeout food and drinks.

The ethos is to provide high quality and good priced food whilst supporting young people into employment through its apprenticeship and volunteering opportunities. The café is also unique in that all profits will be reinvested in the centre ensuring that Myplace can continue to make a difference to the lives of local young people.

The imaginative name of the centre has been chosen by local young people who decided on "We Have Cookies."

Designed by Rotherham Council's in-house architects and built by Wildgoose Construction, the centre off St Ann's roundabout, also includes a theatre, professional recording studio, IT suite, activity rooms and meeting rooms.

Whilst designed to help young people to take part in activities including dance, drama, music and art, the café is open to the public and the building will host daytime activities and classes open for anyone to attend.
