News: Export advice for Rotherham businesses

Local businesses looking to expand into foreign markets will be able to access free expert advice on trading overseas at a special event in Rotherham next week.

Rotherham Investment and Development Office (RiDO), the regeneration arm of the council, has teamed up with Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce to host an International Trade event at the Fusion @ Magna Business Centre in Templeborough.

The free event takes place on Monday April 16 from 5 - 7pm.


Delegates will gain an insight into all aspects of international trade from representatives from the chamber and RiDO plus experts from UKTI, South Yorkshire International Trade Centre and HSBC.

Also set to attend is Senthilkumar Deivasigamany, vice-president and senior partner – Engineering Solutions, at Barry-Wehmiller International Resources – a company which helps manufacturers engage with the Indian market and facilitates the germination of export markets and supply chains across the globe.

The event is part of the "Soft Landings Zone" (SLZ) project funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Building on two decades of successful delivery of incubation programmes and inward investment, RiDO is managing the project that aims to embed additional international business into the area, and help existing businesses to grow in global markets.

RiDO work with home grown companies through accelerated support programmes to develop ideas that have true potential to create export focused businesses, and help local higher education establishments to encourage spinout companies.

Potential investor companies from overseas are also offered a comprehensive array of services, including; fully equipped modern office facilities, available on flexible easy in/easy out terms, and with full reception & admin support. Assistance is also provided to access relevant specialist help and advice, linking to appropriate support organisations and trade bodies.

The RiDO business centres, including Fusion @ Magna, are unique in England, in that they are the only centres to have the National Business Incubation Association's (NBIA) Soft Landings International Incubators designation.
