News: Royal recognition for Beatson Clark apprentice

By

Matt Lee, an engineering apprentice at Beatson Clark in Rotherham attended a prestigious event in London to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Matt was one of around 700 invited guests from all over the UK whose profession was represented by one of the different Livery Companies taking part in the lunch held on June 5 at Westminster Hall.

The invitation to have lunch with the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry meant a second visit to the capital for Matt in the space of six months.

In November he attended a dinner at The Mansion House in London to receive the Apprentice of the Year award from the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Michael Bear, and Martin Scarth, Master of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers.

Matt Lee, apprentice at Beatson Clark, said: "It was a great honour and a privilege to be invited. It really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Now based on Greasborough Road, Beatson Clark has been making glass in South Yorkshire for 260 years. They are currently undergoing an ivestment programme that involves both new machinery and new apprentices.

Matt completed 14 weeks of basic engineering training at Brinsworth Training in Rotherham before joining Beatson Clark last year.

The internal training programme lasts from 12 to 18 months and covers every aspect of the business, from glass making, packaging and quality procedures to sales, marketing, accounting and customer relations.
