News: Macalloy targets new export markets
Rotherham construction experts, Macalloy, is looking to new export markets by employing a multilingual approach to communication and marketing.
Based in Dinnington, Macalloy are world leaders in design, manufacture and supply of threaded bar and cable systems to engineering and construction projects across the globe.
They were awarded the Queen's Awards for Enterprise 2010 for international trade as the company's export earnings increased by 124% in the previous six years.
Macalloy has added Portuguese to its growing list of in-house languages with members of the export sales team recently completing a course delivered through local language specialist Talking Heads.
Talking Heads consulted with the team to understand their objectives and reasons for use. Experienced Brazilian tutor, Andrea, visited on a weekly basis to teach the language from basic skills upwards. After a certain level was reached, the class was tailored to the specific knowledge that the team wanted to gain.
Julie Billson from the Export Sales Department is already an accomplished linguist and understands the benefits of having different languages under her belt, for the benefit of her position within Macalloy. She said: "Understanding the language of your customers isn't just beneficial - it's essential for effective communication and relationship building.
"As Macalloy's supply chain continues to expand via an international network of Macalloy personnel, agents and distributors, learning new languages is crucial to ensuring Macalloy's growth continues in the international market."
Macalloy systems support impressive projects including Dubai International Airport, the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai and close to home, Clifton Park in Rotherham.
They have also been used in Johannesburg's Soccer City Stadium, the centrepiece to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the venue for the final.
