News: Coldwell Boxing launch PPV app
Never ones to stand still, enterprising boxing promoter, Dave Coldwell and his business partner, Spencer Fearn, have launched a new online app to stream their live boxing events to a global audience.
The Rotherham pair has secured an agreement with a subsidiary of ROK Global PLC, the mobile, web and industrial technology, applications and services company, that will see their showcase events available live on PCs, tablets and mobiles.
After a test of the system at a successful event held at Rotherham's Magna Centre on Friday, the first event on the new app will be "The Battle of Manchester" event on December 7 that will be headlined by Kieran Farrell versus Anthony Crolla who will be fighting for the English Lightweight title.
Dave Coldwell, managing director of Coldwell Boxing (pictured below, right), said: "As everyone is well aware, we here at Coldwell Boxing have spent an uncountable amount of time trying desperately to pursue a television deal for ourselves and our boxers so that we can give supporters of boxing the opportunity to see some of the very best sporting action that is currently available.
"Despite the efforts of myself, my team and all our boxers, it doesn't look like that broadcasting deal is likely to come and rather than sitting around and waiting even longer then we have, Coldwell Boxing have taken the initiative.
"Coldwell Boxing would not be where it is today without the continued loyalty of all our supporters. Their dedication has enabled us to take massive steps in the sport of boxing and now we can reward them by giving them full access to the Coldwell Boxing experience."
Friday's three hour show will be priced at £1.49 for pay-per-view access, available from www.coldwell.tv. Future events will be priced at just £2.50 for pay-per-view access. The app is also available on the iTunes store.
Jonathan Kendrick, chairman of ROK, said: "We are delighted to have teamed up with Coldwell Boxing to produce and stream a series of live events because we believe the real boxing fan has largely been underserved over recent years with overpriced and overhyped pay-per-view events. Our aim here is to offer the real boxing fan the best of local and national boxing events at an affordable price."Spencer Fearn, director at Coldwell Boxing (pictured above, left), added: "This is a fantastic deal, not only for Coldwell Boxing, but for all boxing fans. By using this high class technology, we will be able to transmit all our shows to a massive worldwide audience for extremely affordable prices.
"To have ROK as our partners in this exciting projects shows a real statement of intent from Coldwell Boxing and we look forward to providing boxing fans with many memorable nights of entertainment."
A former boxer himself, Coldwell went on to train the likes of Curtis Woodhouse (pictured above, centre), Kell Brook and Ryan Rhodes. Dave also became Head of Boxing at Hayemaker Boxing and played an integral part of David Haye becoming World Heavyweight Champion.
Now an established promoter, manager and trainer, the link up with sports-mad serial entrepreneur Spencer Fearn has seen Coldwell Fearn Sport establish a new gym in Maborough and stage some of the UK's biggest battles.
