News: Kickstart for Fresh N Chic Boutique
An antiques expert has combined her flair for "up-cycling" and her entrepreneurial spirit to establish a specialist boutique in Rotherham.
Dawn Brown, from Catcliffe, launched Fresh N Chic Boutique in January this year. Dawn specialises in taking old furniture and giving it a contemporary retro/vintage look. The new business is Dawn's second venture into the antiques business and she is a former Secretary of the Sheffield Antiques Quarter group.
With the help of a £500 grant from UK Steel Enterprise's Kickstart Fund she was able to secure and fit out a new 367 sq ft workshop that is twice the size of the one she used at the back of her Thurcroft boutique. The boutique on Woodhouse Green sells Dawn's furniture and also rents out space to a number of other antiques traders.
Dawn Brown, owner of the Fresh N Chic Boutique (pictured above, left), said: "When you start a business up from scratch it is twice as hard as the first time because there is nothing out there to help you get started. I am really grateful to UK Steel for believing in me and giving me the grant. The new workshop is perfect and seeing as I had outgrown the other one it means I can really start growing the business."
Allan Wood, regional executive for UK Steel Enterprise says Dawn has a really good business model and believes she has a bright future: "Dawn has a clear vision on how to maximise income with her business model and her skills in turning old furniture into something desirable and saleable is self-evident.
"Our funding has given her business a substantial boost and we are delighted to be able to support her ambition. Our aim with the Kickstart Fund is to support even more people like Dawn in Rotherham and across South Yorkshire."
UK Steel Enterprise is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Steel. Its main investment fund provides business finance in amounts from £25,000 up to £750,000 to a wide variety of companies with the aim of encouraging business growth and job creation in areas affected by changes in the steel industry.
The Kickstart Fund makes grants of up to £500 to pay for essential equipment or materials to people looking to launch a new business or those that are in the early stages of trading.
UK Steel Enterprise has set aside finance to target young entrepreneurs in Rotherham with small scale finance that can make all the difference when starting a new business.
