News: Extra time for chamber awards

By

The Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards, which will this year be hosted by Rotherham's World Cup referee, Howard Webb MBE, have gone into extra time.

The deadline for entries has been extended and businesses now have until Friday September 19 to submit their entries for the various award categories up for grabs.

The Awards will recognise the achievements of the region's top businesses at Barnsley Metrodome on October 17 and is supported this year by local business, Solar Europa.

The awards, hosted by Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, acknowledge the achievements of the region's top firms in ten award categories - in addition to the much-coveted RBS Business of the Year trophy.

Andrew Denniff, chief executive of Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber, said: "We have already received some terrific entries and I would encourage any company out there tell us why they deserve to be a winner. Despite the economic difficulties, many businesses in the region are excelling and they ought to have recognition for these achievements.

"All businesses in Barnsley and Rotherham are welcome to enter and there are categories that cater for businesses of all sizes and sectors. I hope that all can join us at the ceremony to celebrate our region's best and brightest."

The shorlist is set to be announced on September 29.

Before the awards dinner, the chamber is hosting the Chamber Means Business event next week. Returning to Tankersley Manor, Barnsley, on September 17, the free to attend event brings together 30 exhibitors and over 300 businesses and individuals who have the chance to hear from speakers, develop their operation and make new contacts.
