News: Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2014

By

Rotherham Youth Enterprise (RYE) is carrying out its annual search to find the brightest young entrepreneurs across the borough.

Part of Rotherham Council, RYE provides self-employment support and advice for young adults in the area. They encourage young people (up to the age of 30) to explore business ideas and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be their own boss. In addition to business support, office and workshop space is also available.

The Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, now in their ninth year, cover all sectors and look to recognise the achievements of business owners under the age of 30.

The awards are supported by lead sponsor UK Steel Enterprise, a subsidiary of Tata Steel tasked with helping the economic regeneration of communities affected by changes in the steel industry. UK Steel Enterprise has set aside finance from its Kickstart Fund to target young entrepreneurs in Rotherham.

A number of young entrepreneurs have already entered with the deadline for entries on October 20. There are four award categories; Best New Start-Up, Business Most Determined to Succeed, Best Established Business and Most Innovative Business. One of the winners of these four categories will then be awarded the main prize of Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Darren McDool, business coach at Rotherham Youth Enterprise, said: "From the entries we have received so far, it is great to see so many different sectors represented, but there's still time for young entrepreneurs to enter and give themselves the chance to be recognised for their achievements.

"Previous winners have reaped the rewards from this competition and we would love to see other Rotherham-based enterprises enjoying the same benefits."
Gavin Edley, managing director of health specialist, Vitalife Ltd (pictured, left) was named Rotherham's Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2013, picking up a special trophy, a cheque for £1000 and a year's membership of Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber. He said: "Since winning the award we have almost trebled our turnover and I'm sure the credibility and awareness that winning a Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year award brings will have contributed to us achieving this rapid growth."

Entry forms are available by contacting Rotherham Youth Enterprise.
