News: Magna gives house a home
Thousands of partygoers are expected to arrive at Magna in Rotherham this weekend as it welcomes an event to celebrate the history of house music.
Set in the former Templeborough steelworks, the Magna Science Adventure Centre is a family attraction with more than 100 hands-on exhibits. It also hosts regular school trips and has unique event space that can cater for anything from five to 5,000 people.
Around 50 DJs will play on Saturday March 7, including Chicago house pioneer Farley "Jackmaster" Funk and Todd Terry, whose remix of "Missing" by Everything but the Girl was one of the biggest crossover dance tracks of the 1990s. Julie McNight will be flying in to perform the dance music anthem "Finally."
With four different arenas and a VIP room, the History brand is making use of Magna's flexible layout that allows them to use different spaces which can be linked together.
Magna's site was once one of the biggest steelworks in the world with elements of the original building largely preserved. Impressive industrial pieces such as hulking hooks, cupolas and cranes are still in position around the site and can be incorporated into events.
Donna Shaw, of Magna, said: "It's great to bring this international event to South Yorkshire, and we hope everyone is looking forward to a great night.
"Hosting an event like this just shows what a versatile venue Magna is. We can offer space for dance events and wedding receptions right through to big business conferences."
Instrumental in bringing the event to the area is Rotherham businessman, Spencer Fearn, a director of Royal House Events which has hosted parties across the world, in Ibiza, Marbella and Dubai. A former record label boss, Fearn is the managing director of LikeSkills, a national organisation providing training opportunities for young people.
General admission tickets are £28 and there is an option to pay £35 on the night. Tickets can be bought online here.
