News: Chamber awards entry deadline extended

By

Local companies have extra time to submit their applications for the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.

Businesses now have until this Friday, September 11 to submit their entries into this year's awards which will recognise the achievements of the region's top businesses at Barnsley Metrodome on October 23.

Last year saw over 100 entries in the ten categories with top performers from the night being entered into the Business of the Year category. The much sought-after Roy Hatfield Business of the Year trophy will be presented to one outstanding performer of the evening.

Details of the award categories can be found on the awards website.

The Charity of the Year award acknowledges the great work local charities commit to and awards a £3,000 donation to a project, need or initiative to the chosen winner. Last year's Charity of the Year was named as The Pippa Jones Little Treasure Trust who collected their prize in front of over 500 guests. This year's award is being supported by Templeborough-based Telecom and IT company DuoCall, who are donating the prize money to the winning charity.

This year, in association with Voot, the Chamber will recognise five businesses celebrating 50, 75 or 100+ years in business at the awards and those celebrating 10+ years in business can be recognised throughout the year.

Andrew Denniff, chief executive of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, said: "We have already received some terrific entries and I would encourage any company out there tell us why they deserve to be a winner. Despite the economic difficulties, many businesses in the region are excelling and they ought to have recognition for these achievements. "All businesses in Barnsley and Rotherham are welcome to enter and there are categories that cater for businesses of all sizes and sectors. I hope that all can join us at the ceremony to celebrate our region's best and brightest."

Before the awards, the chamber is hosting a free to attend business-to-business exhibition at Wentworth Woodhouse on the September 16, to celebrate the best of business in Barnsley & Rotherham and provide the chance to network with other businesses from the region.
