How Online Entertainment Can Complement Local Options

By

As a reasonably large town in the grand scheme of things, Rotherham has plenty of entertainment options out there from restaurants to live performances. However, for some entertainment types, the number of locations simply isn't enough to support the population. For that reason, we're here to provide you with a few online alternatives to popular entertainment options to help fill in some of the gaps.

Cinema

As of right now, Rotherham hasn't had a dedicated cinema building at all for more than 30 years, and unless you count the Wentworth Woodhouse outdoor cinema which puts on seasonal shows, there's nothing to hit that craving anywhere in town. The nearest main options have been to travel all the way to Sheffield or further which has never been practical.

Almost everyone at this point knows about things like Netflix and other similar platforms but unless you have a particularly elaborate home cinema, the experience isn't the same. A newer option has recently appeared, however, in the form of VR. A virtual reality headset like a Meta Quest can transport you into a virtual cinema environment, and while it doesn't yet replicate popcorn, the technology is advancing fast enough that it's sure to become more immersive.

Casino

Within the town centre, Rotherham does offer a small number of casino establishments, although with demand rising, it likely isn't enough to support all the customers who may be interested. Luckily, the online side of the casino world has been long established in the UK for well over two decades and regardless of the game type, there are options to be played via the Internet.

Although naturally none of them carry the same physical experience, you can find everything from bingo games to slots to live game shows readily available. In fact, there are so many options available that there are even dedicated ratings sites like KingCasinoBonus that act as a guide to all the various providers out there, so if you fancy playing wherever you are, you have a fair few places to try.

Music

In much the same way as the cinema offerings around Rotherham have been quiet for a long time, so too have venues for live music that have been any closer than Sheffield. Barring a few smaller-scale local performances, big-name performers haven't ever had the location to put on shows. The good news for music lovers is that not only are there online alternatives, they often offer a better deal than travelling for many gigs.

The solution has been live-streamed concerts, which trade some of the in-person experience for both convenience and a massive range of artists performing from all over the world. Just this year, even the BBC themselves have started producing 3D streamed musical events, so it isn't unfeasible to think we could get British staples like the Proms in immersive form within the near future.

We always encourage you to support your local options whenever and wherever you can, but hopefully, these suggestions above give you a few extra options when you're planning out your entertainment!
