News: Prototype Creative sign with Tykes

By

Prototype Creative, the Rotherham-based design agency has become Barnsley FC's new exclusive provider for marketing and design services throughout the 2016/17 season.

Based at Manvers, the enterprising multi-disciplined agency was established in 2007 by web developer Josh Abbotts and graphic designer Gav Winder. It works with a wide range of clients, from SMEs to large global corporations including Boeing, Tower Hamlets College, Alcoa, Vitalife Health, EDLounge, and Ardagh Group.

As part of the deal, the Prototype brand is also now displayed on the newly-installed stadium tunnel at Oakwell and the official match ball stand.

Gav Winder, creative director at Prototype Creative (pictured, left), said: "We are overjoyed to form a working partnership with Barnsley Football Club. The opportunities that this sponsorship will create for us will allow us to seriously grow.

"As lifelong Reds fans, it's a fantastic opportunity for us to work alongside the Club during what is a really positive and successful period in the club's history. We hope this partnership continues into the Premier League!"

Ian Leech commercial manager at Barnsley FC, added: "We're delighted to welcome Gavin, Josh and the team at Prototype on board as our latest commercial partner. After our initial meeting, they took the time to really understand us as a club and our goals and ambitions off-the-field. Prototype are right at the cutting edge when it comes to design services and I’m really excited to work with them and see first-hand the impact that their expertise will have at the club.

"All of the designers at Prototype are Barnsley fans, so they really understand what it means to be a Red and how important this club is to the local community. Therefore, they are the perfect company to help us engage with our proud and loyal supporters through modern and creative design. Prototype are a forward thinking, creative, local based company that we as a club are proud to be associated with, and we can't wait to get going!"

Gav and Josh were awarded the top prize at the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in 2008 having built up the business at the RiDO-run Century Business Centre at Manvers with six months rent-free on the Rotherham Youth Enterprise (RYE) scheme.

News: Young entrepreneurs moving on up

By

The winners of last year's Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards say their businesses have been booming in 2009 - despite the economic gloom.

Josh Abbotts and Gavin Winder at Prototype Creative have reported a good year's business.

The pair, who run their graphic and web design agency out of another RiDO-run business centre – Century at Manvers – have seen full order books without even trying to get the work in.

Josh said: "We've done very little to get more work – it just keeps on coming in from word of mouth. We find often the best way of marketing yourself is by doing a really good job.

"Small jobs may not be the most profitable on the surface – but do them well and people will often be back with bigger orders."

The deadline to enter the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards 2009 is July 19th.

News: Prototype Creative win entrepreneur award

By

Graphic designers Gavin Winder and Joshua Abbotts have been awarded the prestigious top prize in this year’s Rotherham Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2008. The pair’s hard work and determination to make their graphic and web design business Prototype Creative a success, so impressed judges that they had no hesitation in awarding them the title for 2008 – and £1,000 to invest in their company. Awards organiser and judge Geoff Link, enterprise manager at Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO) the council’s regeneration arm, said: "Gavin and Josh’s commitment to their business is unquestionable. Their work ethic sees no bounds, they’ve got bucketfuls of energy, loads of great ideas and on top of all of that - they’ve both got a good head for business. They’re only 26, but they seem to know where they’re going and how they’re going to get there - while having fun along the way. "I think we’ll see more of these two in the future. Their business has got a lot of potential." Gavin and Josh moved into a small office at RiDO-run Century Business Centre at Manvers with six months rent-free on a Youth Enterprise scheme. That was February last year. They now run their operation from the biggest office on the site and employ two staff, web developer Jason Smart and office manager Dorna Kelly, and are looking to take on another graphic designer soon. Gavin said: "We’d just like to thank everyone involved with this award, it’s a great addition to our empty awards cabinet. "We’d also like to thank all our clients, past and present who have continually supported us over the last 18 months, we are grateful that they believe our services are worth recognition. "Rotherham Youth Enterprise gave us a fantastic start in business life. The combined business knowledge of RiDO business advisers Martyn Benson and Darren McDool has been priceless. And we couldn’t have done it without our staff. Jason has taken a huge weight off Josh's shoulders, and Dorna’s organisation skills and financial dealings make our whole operation flow a great deal more smoothly."

News: Prototype of a successful business

By

Gavin Winder and Joshua Abbotts, both 26, have been named the Best New Start Up at the Rotherham Young Entrepreneur Awards 2008 for their graphic and web design business, Prototype Creative. The Barnsley College graduates set the business up in February 2007 after getting some invaluable experience in the trade. They now have a string of corporate clients and their unusual approach to design is really taking off. Gavin said: "We always said we’d set up a business together at college, but both of us went off and did our own thing, although we did still see each other socially. "One day we were saying how we’d be millionaires if we set up that business together - so we did." The pair moved into a small office at RiDO-run Century Business Centre at Manvers with six months rent-free on a Youth Enterprise scheme. They now employ two staff and have already moved to the biggest office available at the centre and are looking to employ more. Gavin said: "The award is a great pat on the back for us. We’ve worked really hard these past 18 months and it’s great to know that other people think you’re doing good a good job too."
