Rotherham-based Martek Marine, world leaders in the manufacture and supply of environmental and safety equipment to the marine industry, has appointed Karen Bedford to the key position of operations manager.

Karen has worked for Martek in Manvers for the past seven years in various roles within the organisation, the most recent role being that of after sales manager. In this new position Karen will oversee both the after sales and production departments and bring together both teams.

Paul Luen, CEO of Martek Marine said: "Karen is a shining example of a high performing, highly committed individual who epitomises all that Martek stands for. She lives and breathes our company values and has delivered success in every role she has operated in across multiple disciplines.

"I'm personally looking forward to supporting her further career development as we address the great opportunities that we have in front of us. This promotion is a statement of our intent to promote from within and reward anyone who is prepared to embrace our culture and deliver sustained results."

Karen added: "I was delighted to accept the position of operations manager, I have gained a great team of committed people and am looking forward to working closely with them to ensure they achieve the success they deserve.

"This is a really busy and exciting time for Martek and I'm thrilled at the prospect of helping take the company to the next level".

Martek provides systems for engine emissions monitoring, gas detection, water level detection and cargo tank monitoring that are found in vessels across the world.

They recently shipped their 1,500 Navgard system, the bridge navigation watch and alarm system (BNWAS) that is designed to monitor bridge activity and detect any operator disability that could lead to shipping accidents.
