News: EMSc expand into Sheffield

By

Award-winning energy consultancy, EMS (UK) Ltd, is moving its head office and manufacturing workshop to Sheffield.

Currently based at Templeborough, EMS manufactures Powerstar, a voltage optimisation system with a patented design, which can actively reduce electrical energy consumption by an average of 12-15% of consumed electricity.

The Powerstar system is the only voltage optimisation system wholly designed and manufactured in the UK and works by reducing the the voltage supplied by the National Grid.

Last year the company celebrated ten years of continued success in Rotherham with turnover increasing by 50%, to £12.4m and its workforce doubling to 70 people.

Now EMS has purchased 24,000 sq ft of space at St Paul's Developments' Smithy Wood Business Park that will enable the company to consolidate its warehouse and head office accommodation to enable higher levels of production and to meet exponential demand growth in the UK and internationally.

The new workspace is more than double the size of the current home, therefore enabling EMS to more than double their manufacturing capabilities.

Dr. Alex Mardapittas, managing director at EMSc, said: "We have grown significantly over the last few years to meet the growing market demand for our products. Excitingly, and despite the current recession, we are anticipating our growth to continue into 2013, at an even faster pace than we have experienced over the last few years. As energy prices continue to rise, our innovative energy saving products are becoming increasingly attractive."

Rebecca Schofield, partner at the Sheffield office of Knight Frank, who is agent on the scheme, said: "The sale of unit J2 at Smithy Wood is a significant investment by EMSc (UK) Ltd.

"It is complemented by a two-storey, 6,000 sq ft office extension, which enables the company to consolidate from its three existing facilities to a single headquarters.

"The flexibility and location of accommodation at Smithy Wood is creating one of the city's most vibrant business parks. It is also good to see a return to bespoke design and build projects such as those delivered for Cutting and Wear and the newly agreed development for DPD, both at the site."

EMS House will officially open for business on Monday December 17.
