News: High Street heritage project to work from memories

By

As part of the Townscape Heritage Initiative scheme (THI), launched in January, Rotherham Council has made a plea for people to share old photographs and memories that they have of the town’s High Street. The THI Project Officer, Katharine Boyes, said: "It's the town's heritage we are interested in bringing back to life, and photos and shared memories are a great way for us to ensure that we do this well." The £3.5m heritage initiative aims to restore Rotherham's High Street to its former glory by providing grants to make repairs and improvements to the old buildings. With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Yorkshire Forward and Rotherham Borough Council, it will transform the High Street and attract new shops, restaurants and coffee houses.
