News: Outline plans for town centre campus approved

By

Rotherham College of Arts and Technology is another step closer to creating their new state of the art campus in Rotherham town centre based on Eastwood Lane. The outline planning application for the development has been approved with issues relating to the size of the development, the proposed closure of Morpeth Street, and the proximity to the town centre conservation area and the Grade 1 listed Minster all discussed. The College will continue to work towards creating the new college campus in two phases; the first stage starting in Summer 2009. If all goes to plan, students will benefit from the new building and facilities from late 2011. The College is planning to get the second stage of the project completed in 2013. Project Sponsor, Chris Stanbra was very pleased with the quick approval of the outline planning application and commented: "We now have increased confidence that our plans for a new town centre college fit with the local authority’s vision for the town and we are positive that they will soon become a reality. "We’re confident that our architects can create an environment that is iconic, inspirational, imaginative and that motivates learners to succeed. The new building will also become an important feature in the town centre’s renaissance and reflect the optimism that we share for the future of the town."
