News: German delegation mark 10th anniversary of partnership with Rotherham

By

A six-strong delegation from Riesa, in eastern Germany, has made a VIP visit to Rotherham to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the economic and development partnership between the town and the borough. During the visit, the delegation met with Tim O’Connell, head of the business development team at Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO), the council’s regeneration arm. He was able to share Rotherham’s vision for the future, highlighting its success in attracting new companies and developers to the region, in which he has a strong track record. They also had a preview of the plans for the major £5m Clifton Park project and visited Wath Comprehensive School, which has established a strong link by running a programme of exchanges for language students over the past two years. Christine Majer, economic strategy officer for Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council’s Environment & Development Services, said: "This was a celebration visit to mark the strong links Rotherham and Riesa have built up over the past decade. It’s a clear sign that Rotherham’s reputation continues to grow on the European, and even world, stage. "Like Riesa, Rotherham has been traditionally associated with mining and steel but gradually we are shifting perceptions and demonstrating that our tremendous regeneration programmes are helping drive a thriving local economy."
