News: Julie is a safe pair of hands guiding flagship business centre

By

The woman who will captain a new £5m flagship business centre, one of the most innovative in the UK, is no stranger to helping start-up companies flourish. Julie Hall, business centre co-ordinator for the unmistakable eco-friendly Fusion@Magna, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, spent 17 years working with small businesses in Barnsley on every level including helping them capitalise on marketing, training and networking. Julie said: "I’m excited about this new challenge to help the area’s entrepreneurs reach their potential. "I hope to build on the success and reputation of the RiDO centres at Century and Moorgate Crofts, so that we can continue to provide start-up companies with the right environment to launch and grow their businesses." Julie previously worked at Barnsley’s Mount Osborne Business Centre before being promoted to business facilities coordinator – responsible for the day-to-day operation of Mount Osborne and two other centres. "Fusion @ Magna is unlike any building I’ve ever worked in," she added. The walls are trellised with galvanised steel, forming a structure for foliage to grow along. That, along with the green roof, covered with sedum and herbaceous plants, and additional landscaping reduce energy loss and the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. There is also a system to collect and re-use rainwater. The green technology provides protection from ultra-violet radiation and insulation against temperature extremes, improving durability and cutting running costs. The centre is already 50 per cent let and its 29 offices and 18 workshops are suitable for everything from creative and financial services companies to small-scale manufacturing operations.
