Award-winning Rotherham glassmaker, Beatson Clark, has announced a £2m investment in machinery and facilities to supply an extra 75 million units of clear glass containers to the industry. The line, which is expected to be operational by the end of January 2009, will pull 65 tonnes of glass from the furnace each day and will produce mainly food containers in 30-300ml sizes. The investment will also provide full-time employment for 15 temporary staff at the Greasborough Road site which employs around 300 people. The firm has a turnover of £51m and a current production capacity of some 800 million units or 135,000 tonnes. Charlotte Muscroft, marketing manager for Beatson Clark said: "We understand that there is a demand for clear flint glass, and by improving our facilities at Rotherham we can meet our customer’s requirements, ensuring their products stand out amongst their competitors. "We feel that this significant investment, coupled with our overseas supply partners and emphasis on providing the industry with much needed products, will ensure our customers of continuity of supply combined with the high quality, flexibility and design innovation they have come to expect from Beatson Clark."
