Rotherham United's first team squad has taken their first step toward an NOCN accreditation with their involvement in training as part of the "Inspire Rotherham" Project. The Yorkshire Forward funded project aims to raise standards in reading and communication for children under 11. Rotherham United is fully supporting the initiative and will work with its Community Sports Trust to widely promote the project and use the Millers brand to engage hard to reach families. Social enterprise, Reading Matters will train the players to gain the skills and confidence to act as Reading Mentors. The players will gain an accreditation via the NOCN which will give them the confidence and skills to inspire the young people of Rotherham. Millers player Dale Tonge said: "It was a real eye opener to what we will need to be able to do when we get involved in the schools and start working with the kids. "Once we have completed the training it will be nice to meet the children and help them with their reading. It is always important to be able to come into the community and take part in events such as this. It gives us the opportunity to give something back to the supporters and that is something that we are all required to do." Later this month the players begin attending schools in Maltby as part of the pilot for Inspire Rotherham.
