News: Access all areas in Rotherham

By

Disabled people will be given the opportunity to take part in a number of work placements thanks to the "Access All Areas" scheme in Rotherham. Through the scheme, ten local employers will be providing 30 day work placement opportunities to disabled people. The scheme has been set up because as it is recognised that if someone has not worked for some time it can be harder to find paid work. If a person also has a disability there can be additional barriers an individual has to cross to gain work. By providing work placements it is hoped that it will help an individual to build their self-esteem, confidence and stamina. It will also provide real work experience that an individual can describe when applying for work to show that they meet the requirements for the post. The project will be launched on Friday March 27 at Silverwood Miners Welfare Centre, when disabled people will be able to come along to meet with employers and find out about the placements on offer. Rotherham Council, 2010 Rotherham, NHS Rotherham, South Yorkshire Police and Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber are all set to offer placements.
