News: Rotherham MP addresses credit crunch challenges

By

Local Government Minister and Wentworth MP John Healey outlined many of the challenges faced by the Government over the last 12 months at a well-attended credit crunch event organised by Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce. Mr Healey also discussed that, more than ever, it was essential for business to look at new and innovative ways of approaching the issues that affect their day-to-day activity. Mr Healey said: "Organisations like Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce are in a strong position to support local businesses through this tough economic climate - so I was pleased to be able to attend the event, and was impressed at the range of help and advice available. "Events like these will be vital to supporting communities through the downturn - but Government also has a role to play, and doing nothing is not an option." Chamber Chief Executive John Lewis said: "It was very pleasing to see so many local businesses take this opportunity to learn from our panel of speakers and share their experiences with representatives of other companies." Neil Baxter, Chair of the Rotherham Work & Skills Board, said: "I am sure everyone who attended the event will have benefited from the expertise and advice offered by Mr Healey and our team of speakers. It was encouraging to see such a range of businesses from various sectors finding out more about the support available to them." Attendees also heard from a number of experts and presentations from the "Managing the credit crunch" event with the Rotherham Work and skills board are available on the Chamber's Recession website.
