News: LSM celebrates 70 years in Rotherham

By

Generations of industrious Rotherham people have been working at the London & Scandinavian Metallurgical Co Ltd site since the late 1940s.

The global manufacturing company, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, has decided to celebrate its longevity and local heritage by putting something back into the local community – to its generations of the future.

The firm has donated much-needed cash to Canklow Woods Primary School to pay for enough interactive white boards for every class.

LSM financial director David Beare said: "We decided we wanted to give something back to the community.

"We didn’t want to just give money and leave it at that – we wanted to help in other ways as well. Raising the aspirations, awareness and understanding of businesses in the area is important on so many levels."

LSM started off on a four-acre site on Fullerton Road in Rotherham in 1949. It now employs 200 people on its expanded 74-acre manufacturing site and exports 75 per cent of its products – including chromium, ferro titanium and aluminium rod and alloys that are used in aluminium cast houses worldwide.

Human resources specialist Sarah Wilkinson from Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO) said: "We all know how difficult things are out there at the moment, but we can't just focus on the present. At RiDO, we're always looking for ways to help people and companies develop the skills and ambitions Rotherham will need now and in the future."
