News: Rotherham to host international aerospace conference
An international aerospace conference, which will explore the rapidly changing nature of the aerospace industry and aims to bring together people interested in making the industry more innovative, will be held at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham this autumn.
The 2009 Trends in Aerospace Manufacturing (TRAM09) Conference is being organised by the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) and will take place on September 9 and 10 at the AMP Technology Centre.
The aerospace industry has seen significant changes in recent years with new materials and manufacturing methods being introduced in an attempt to get maximum performance for minimum cost. New aircraft structures have been developed and aero-engines are lighter and more environmentally friendly.
At the same time the structure of the industry has changed and there has been a move from large companies designing, manufacturing components and assembling aircrafts, to large global supply chains headed by large system integrators. All these changes have forced engineers and managers to bring in innovations in design, materials, manufacturing technologies and supply chain management.
TRAM09 will examine the implications of these new trends by focussing on four key areas; new materials; manufacturing technologies; assembly technologies; and supply chain management.
Jim Farmery, Assistant Director of Business at Yorkshire Forward said: "The aerospace sector is highly important to our region, from the work of BAe Systems in Brough and the AMRC, to the offer of high quality companies operating across the industry's supply chain.
"This conference is an opportunity for companies in our region to learn more from global experts about the latest developments in the aerospace industry, enabling them to be better placed to benefit from the changes the industry is facing, but also an excellent occasion to showcase the AMP and Yorkshire's other capabilities to the world's aerospace industry."
