By

An exciting opportunity is being created at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Rotherham as they look for an engineering apprentice.

The position at the University of Sheffield has become available due to the continued growth of the AMRC with Boeing, a £60 million collaboration among more than 40 partner organisations, comprising world leaders in the aerospace supply chain, key government offices and international academic institutions.

The apprentice would work alongside more than 80 highly qualified researchers and engineers from around the globe who research new and exotic materials such as titanium, inconel and composites.

The full-time post is fixed term with an end date of 31 August 2010 and involves spending work time at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham and part time at Sheffield College working towards an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.

The apprentice will be trained to program and run CNC machining centres and work will cover all aspects of modern engineering from hands on manufacturing to using the latest in CAD CAM software, subsequently applying this knowledge to live research projects.
